Change at the helm of the "Garibaldi"

This morning, at the "Ferrari Orsi" Barracks, headquarters of the Bersaglieri Brigade Command "Garibaldi", in the presence of the commander of the 2 Defense Forces Command, corps general Carmine De Pascale, and the highest civil authorities, military and religious of Caserta and Province, took place the ceremony of change of the command of the Brigade between the brigadier general Maurizio Angelo Scardino, transferor, and the equal degree Claudio Minghetti, successor.

General Scardino left the command of the prestigious Unit after almost two years of intense training and operational activity carried out both at home and outside the national territory.

The Brigade, under his leadership, was engaged during the August 2014 - March 2015 in Afghanistan under the command of the multinational contingent responsible for the western sector of the area assigned to NATO troops. In this context, the "Garibaldi" has fulfilled the delicate task of passing from the ISAF mission (International Security Assistance Force), ended the 31 December 2014, to the Resolute Support mission, a complex phase that has seen the transition to an operation no longer connected with tasks of direct participation in the operations but aimed at the activity of training, consulting and assistance conducted by a team of specialists in favor of the top management of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).

At the same time, the "Garibaldi" Brigade continued the plan to return vehicles and materials back home, called Itaca 2, which represented an unprecedented logistical effort since the end of the 2 World War and made a considerable effort also in civil cooperation activities and military in the social, health, education and local institutions fields, further supporting the process of reconstruction of the Afghan country. At home he continued to participate in the "Safe Roads" operation in the sectors of Caserta, Naples, Salerno and Rome, working alongside the police in the fight aimed at preventing organized and environmental crime.

Over the past two years the genius component of the Brigade has continued in the remediation of war surpluses dating back to the 2 World War II in the area comprising Campania and the Provinces of Isernia and Latina and the training of personnel has been intense and constant of the "Garibaldi" aimed at guaranteeing the full operational capacity and the readiness for employment in the times and places that the Government Authority decides to send the Great Unit.

General Scardino will return to the Central Bodies in Rome.
