The bomb squads of the 21st sapper engineering regiment, unit of the "Garibaldi" Bersaglieri brigade, defused a high-potential explosive device, dating back to the First World War, occasionally found during work on agricultural land in the municipality of Aprilia (LT).

The particular and unusual bomb, a 240mm "bombard", of Italian manufacture, containing about 40 kg of high explosive, was mainly used during the first world war and after more than 100 years, it was found in good condition.

The bombard, without mechanical parts and sensitive organs, was first secured and subsequently transported to the quarry in the municipality of Cori (LT), where it was destroyed with a controlled blasting inside a "stove" built with works of excavation already prepared.

The delicate operation, for security reasons, required a 750-meter clearing area and the evacuation of several families. The intervention was planned thanks to technical preventive tables that saw the fruitful and synergistic collaboration of the Prefecture of Latina, the Italian Army, the Carabinieri, the Fire Brigade, the Provincial Police, the Local Police and the Municipal Administrations of Latina and Cori.

For the bomb disposal specialists in the reclamation of regulatory and circumstantial explosive devices of the 21st destroyer engineering regiment of Caserta, coordinated by Southern Operative Forces Command of Naples, is the sixty reclamation operation since the beginning of the year with over 240 neutralized devices.
