17/11/14

The army blasters proceeded yesterday morning to the disengaging of a war bomb, dating back to the Second World War, occasionally found on a construction site in a central area of the municipality of Sasso Marconi (BO).

The bomb, an American-made AN-M 30 plane bomb, found in bad conditions but still active and working, had already been secured thanks to the timely intervention, last November 5, of the bombs of the actual army at the railway engineers genius regiment of Castel Maggiore (BO).

The delicate disengaging operation, conducted in the field by a team of specialist bomb-makers, very expert in the sector of deactivation of regulatory explosive devices and of circumstances, provided for the removal of the quills from the device and subsequently its transport, for the definitive neutralization, in a suitable area. The operations were coordinated by the lieutenant Cosimo Rizzo, seconded, during the activity, at the crisis unit. To ensure an adequate security framework for intervention, the local municipal administration has established, by special order, the evacuation of more than 6000 residents within the radius of 1,5 km from the place of discovery.

For the specialists of the genius railway regiment, coordinated for such activities by the Northern Interregional Defense Forces Command of Padua, with the technical advice of the Center of Excellence Counter IED (Improvised Explosive Disposal) of Rome, institution responsible for the training and updating of the bombs of the Ministry of Defense, it is already the eleventh bomb of an airplane since the beginning of the year.
