Biathlon: Nicole Gontier on the podium at Oberhof

There are not many adjectives to describe the blue female biathlon season: in the 7,5 World Cup km sprint held today in Oberhof, Germany, the Italian national team managed to place two athletes on the podium, marking a new record in history blue in this winter discipline.

Behind the Czech Veronika Vitkova, in fact, Dorothea Wierer, 2 ^ a 8,8 '' were placed, and the 1 ° caporal major Nicole Gontier, 3 ^ a 19,1 '', but we must also underline the beautiful performance of the choosen major corporal Karin Oberhofer, 8 ^ but fighting for victory until the 2 ° polygon.

The race immediately got off to a good start for the Italians, with Gontier and Oberhofer who, thanks to the series of shooting without errors, commanded the classification after the first polygon. The Italians are also very strong on skis and at the second polygon they are still in the top positions: Oberhofer makes two mistakes and gets out of the fight for victory, but Wierer and Gontier are perfect and fly away to the finish line that will be worth the podium . For Nicole Gontier it is a result that confirms the excellent moment of form after the 8 ° place obtained in Pokljuka before the Christmas break and that rewards the hard work done on the shot, always its weak point, while in the background it always has proven to be at a high level.

The double podium of today rewards the work of a national team that works with few elements, but that can constantly point to the top positions. Thanks to the podium of Nicole Gontier, moreover, Italy becomes the only nation capable, this season, of placing three athletes on the podium (Oberhofer went to the podium in Hochfilzen).

The program of races will see tomorrow the men's sprints, where the 1 ° caporal major Dominik Windisch and the 1 ° caporal major VFP4 Thomas Bormolini will be at the start, while on Sunday mass start trials will take place, where Gontier and Oberhofer will aim again maximum result.
