On Saturday, in the Sala Nervi, the Holy Father met the Paralympic world as part of the "Believe to be alive" initiative, "Believe to be alive". The event was attended by Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Punzo, an army officer serving in the honor role, former helicopter pilot and injured during the UNTSO (United Nations Truce Supervision Organization) mission in southern Lebanon.

Lieutenant Colonel Punzo is an athlete in the discipline of archery and took part in the Invictus Games held in early September in London, coming to play in the final for third place in teams.

The first Italian Paralympic gala, which began on 3 October, ended on Sunday, in via della Conciliazione, with a sports day open to all, a sort of "open-air gym" with Paralympic sports demonstrations coordinated by the respective federations and with the intervention of the army's Montebello Lancers.

The event was promoted by the Italian Paralympic Committee with which the Defense has signed a memorandum of understanding last July 8 aimed at promoting and spreading the practice of adaptive sports towards disabled soldiers contracted during the service.
