Blasters neutralize a bomb from 500 pounds to Albisola (SV)

Albisola Superiore (SV), an 500 pound bomb (226 Kg) in the Oliveto district was neutralized today by the army bomb squads belonging to the 32 ° Genie Regiment of the Taurinense Alpine Brigade.

The bomb, a US-made aircraft bomb with 140 kilos of explosives, was first deprived of on-site trigger mechanisms, making it safe for transportation, and subsequently shone at the nearby Beata quarry, among the hamlets of Ellera and Luceto, in the same municipal territory.

The operations of securing the bomb ended in full compliance with the program, also thanks to the operational support offered by the Municipality of Savona. At 15: 00 the areas previously cleared were made accessible and the over 1.200 families evacuated returned home. The A10 motorway, the Aurelia and the railway line between Varazze and Savona have been reopened, electricity supply has been resumed and mobile telephone services have been restored.

The bomb was used in the past for the destruction of ammunition depots, railway stations and lines, bridges, installations. For the removal of the triggering mechanisms (spools) the Army bomb squads used special equipment such as the "rocket wrench" to operate at a safe distance. The effects of the blast, which finally destroyed the bomb, were canceled by placing the bomb on the bottom of a four-meter hole covered with more than 60 cubic meters of earth.

The intervention was carried out by the specialists of the 32 regiment sappers of the Alpine Brigade Taurinense, one of the 12 regiments of the Army able to intervene for the reclamation of explosive devices and war remnants.
