The bomb, a plane bomb of 100 pound of US manufacture of the type AN-M 30 GP with high explosive loading, had been accidentally found in viale Montello during the excavation works for the realization of the structures to dedicate to the district heating installation.
The operations of securing the territory, coordinated by the Prefecture of Mantua, began at 06.30 with the evacuation of approximately 350 residents. At 10.00 the Army specialists proceeded to "despolate" the device by removing the front and back spools of the bomb. Subsequently, the bombers proceeded to transfer the device to an area designated by the Prefecture of Mantua called "Bus del Gatt", located about 5 km from the place of discovery, where it was made to shine. The operations are terminated around the 15.00.
The intervention was carried out by the specialists of the 10 Regiment Genio Guastatori of the 132 Aries Armored Brigade, which is one of the 12 regiments of the Army able to intervene for the remediation of explosive devices and war residuals.
In the last 10 years, the interventions carried out by the army bombers were about 30000.
