This morning, a military bomb squad defused an airplane bomb, dating back to the Second World War, in the historic center of Verona.

The bomb, an American-made 500 pound aircraft bomb of the AN-M64 type, had been accidentally found within the area of ​​the former Austrian arsenal during the excavation works for the construction of the structures to be dedicated to parking lots.

The operations, coordinated by the Prefecture of Verona, ended at 12: 05 and required the evacuation of approximately 27000 between residents and tourists. Army specialists have defused the device that will be made to shine, in safety, at the civil airport of Boscomantico in the municipality of Verona on tomorrow morning.

The intervention was carried out by the specialists of the 8 ° Regiment Genio Guastatori of the Folgore Paratrooper Brigade, which is one of the 12 Army regiments capable of intervening for the reclamation of explosive devices and war remnants. In the last 10 years the interventions have been over 30000.
