The command, which originates from the suppression of the command of the defense forces (1 °) of Vittorio Veneto and from the elevation to the rank of army corps of the pre-existing military command "Veneto" army of Padua, has become, in a short time, a point of reference both in the military organization and in the civil world.
The commander, Army Corps General Bruno Stano, expressed during his speech words of great satisfaction for the great effort made by the civil and military personnel of COMFODI-NORD and for the commendable spirit of service always demonstrated, factors, these, which have made possible the realization of the "operation" of the command since its first months of life.
COMFODI-NORD has the responsibility to coordinate the operational competitions and not in the central-northern part of the Peninsula, an area equal to 152.000 kmq which includes ten administrative Regions and sixty-two Provinces.
Exercising the functions of "tactical command" on all the units of the armed force located in this wide area of jurisdiction, the command is the only direct interlocutor of the prefectures therein insistent, in case it becomes necessary the intervention of the army for particular situations of emergency.
During the exceptional waves of bad weather that characterized the first months of the 2014, the high command of Padua intervened effectively in three of the ten regions administered: Veneto (Treviso and Belluno), Emilia Romagna (Modena) and Tuscany (Pisa) , providing a decisive contribution to the populations affected by floods.
The Northern Interregional Defense Forces Command, also during the 2014, coordinated the intervention of the bomb disposal officers of seven of the twelve army genius regiments in the land reclamation activity by unexploded war devices.
In particular, it should be remembered the defusing and the removal of the dangerous bomb from 4.000 pounds (2.500 kg of TNT) of World War II, found in the area of the former "Dal Molin" airport in Vicenza.
This complex and extremely delicate neutralization operation, which led to the evacuation of approximately 30.000 inhabitants, living in a radius of 2,5 km from the place where the bomb was found, ended positively freeing the city from this grave threat.
Furthermore, the complex exercise of civil protection, called "Galileo", held in Padua the June 20 us, saw the leading command, together with various departments of the army and other members of the national civil protection service, in providing evidence of prompt response and timely intervention, as well as synergistic cooperation between the military and civil structure.
Finally, the North-Interregional Defense Forces command continues its incessant coordination action, within the "Safe Roads" operation (still in progress), against the six army groupings (over 1.400 men employed) deployed in thirteen cities in central-northern Italy, which provide their competition to police forces in patrolling cities, in external surveillance of reception centers or particularly sensitive sites, among which stands out for its strategic and national importance, the TAV construction site in Val Susa.
