The Army continues to be involved in emergencies related to the bad weather that has hit southern Italy in recent weeks. The engineers of the genius are engaged on two fronts, in Calabria for the restoration of the roads in the still isolated municipalities and in Messina for the water emergency in support of the population.

In particular, the soldiers of the 4 ° regimental genius regiment of Palermo and of the autonomous genius company of Castrovillari work from 5 days in Palizzi (RC), one of the countries that suffered the greatest damage from the flood in Calabria. So far around 1.000 mc of debris have been removed from the road that joins Palizzi Marina with Palizzi Superiore and the track leading to the town's aqueduct has been rebuilt, made impractical by the landslides that occurred.

In Messina, the Army contributes to the distribution of water in competition with the Civil Protection with 5 tankers of 8.000 liters. Yesterday, moreover, a meeting was held in the Prefecture of Messina in which the results of an inspection of the Fiumefreddo pipeline were presented where a bypass will be made by the local water company with the help of specialized personnel from the Army and Civil Protection . In the barracks of the 24th “Peloritani” regiment of Messina, the sanitation of 10 tank trucks will also be carried out, which will increase the transport capacity of drinking water. The armed force will keep all the necessary assets ready to intervene in the landslide area and limit the inconvenience to the population.
