5 Towers 2015: between past and future in the places of the Great War

Cortina d'Ampezzo, over 700 soldiers from 11 countries participated in the exercise organized by the Army Alpine Troops Command in 5 Torri, where 100 years ago the Italian Army fought in the trenches at over 2200 meters above sea level.

On the final day the Chief of Defense Staff, General Claudio Graziano, the Chief of Army Staff, Army Corps General Danilo Errico, the Commander of the General Terrestrial Operative Forces of the Alberto Primicerj Corps and the commander of the general Alpine troops of the Federico Bonato army corps.

The civil and military authorities and the public intervened witnessed a significant training activity for mountain troops. The exercise was an opportunity to test the level of ability achieved in training by the Alpini, implementing mountaineering techniques for movement and mountain rescue together with other Italian and foreign Armed Forces of Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Jordan , FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia), Oman, United Kingdom, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland, and refine cooperation with other specialist units of the Italian Army.

General Graziano, during his speech, stated that "this exercise is a sign of transformation and continuity in which we must move. In a time of limited resources, it is necessary to exalt our excellences. Among the many skills there is that of fighting in the mountains, a peculiarity that is recognized in the world.The physical and mental courage and resistance that these men and women have shown in practice today - added the Chief of Defense Staff - are fundamental elements for a soldier. more prepared but with the same spirit as those who fought the First World War on these mountains.

The Army Chief of Staff, after thanking the intervening authorities, highlighted how "today's exercise has been a valuable opportunity to refine cooperation in the high mountain environment in the joint and combined environment, thanks to the participation of staff coming from from other Armed Forces and Allied Nations ".
