3 ^ conference on "software engineering for defense applications"

Yesterday ended the first day of the 3 ^ edition of the international conference on "Software Engineering for Defense Applications" (SEDA) at the unified circle of the armed forces of Rome called by the logistic department of the army staff, in collaboration with the faculty of computer science of the free university of Bolzano.

The conference proposes to the Defense and scientific and industrial community executives the potential offered by the use of new and innovative methodologies in software development for military applications.

These methodologies, called "agile", have the characteristic of directly involving the customer in the development activities, in compliance with the operational needs of the armed force and in support of the operational command and control function.

The first day was opened by Brigadier General Angelo Messina, deputy head of the logistics department of the communication information system of the Army General Staff, who stressed the importance of seeking more opportunities for the evolution of military capabilities , through new and greater synergies with universities.

This is the case of the free university of Bolzano, whose center for applied software engineering, founded by prof. Giancarlo Succi's mission is to excel in the research of applied software engineering, linking the academic and industrial worlds.

The event, aimed at the representatives of Defense, of the academic and industrial world, stimulated a high-level scientific comparison, through the discussion of research papers presented by Italian and foreign scholars (A. Benedetti, A. Veroli, C. Sibilia , F. Bovino, V. Taquette, E. Mendes, F. Murades).

The conference was attended by representatives of the largest multinational electronics companies specializing in the aerospace, defense, and information technology sectors such as Thales Italia and Selex ES. Numerous representatives of the engineering faculties of seven Italian universities including the University of Studies of Padua, Genoa and "La Sapienza" of Rome.
