Transportation of a woman awaiting transplantation

03/05/15

A sixty-year-old woman from Gela awaiting kidney transplant was transported during the night with a Falcon 900 of the Italian Air Force from Catania to Pisa, for the subsequent intervention at the Transplant Center of the Cisanello Hospital in the Tuscan capital.

The aircraft, taken off from the permanent base of Ciampino's 31 ° Stormo to Catania shortly after the 02.00, departed from the Sicilian airport around four o'clock this morning in the direction of Pisa with the patient on board, where it arrived around the 05,20. At the end of the mission he returned to Ciampino.

The emergency medical transport, requested by the Prefecture of Caltanissetta, was coordinated by the Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the H24 Air Force operating room which has among its tasks that of organizing and managing - in coordination with Prefectures, Hospitals and Presidency of the Council of Ministers - this type of transport throughout the national territory, including the islands.

Crews and transport aircraft of the Italian Air Force are ready day and night to ensure, where required and deemed necessary for urgent reasons, the medical transport of people in imminent danger of life, as in this case awaiting transplantation or even organs to transplant and related medical teams.

Thousands are flown every year by the 31 ° Stormo aircraft of Ciampino, by the 14 ° Stormo of Pratica di Mare and by the 46 ^ Pisa Air Brigade, always in the front line in case of emergency as happened in the last days with the intervention to transport aid to Nepal and to repatriate Italian and foreign citizens who survived the terrible earthquake that hit the Asian country.
