Diver rescued by the MICCD military

03/04/15

On Wednesday morning, 1 April, a helicopter of the Italian Mission in Malta rescued three troubled divers, in the stretch of sea in front of "Blue Grotto", a town on the south-west coast of the island of Malta.

The divers, due to the rough sea and strong current in the area that quickly pushed them offshore, were no longer able to regain the shore.

The helicopter, with 5 crew members on board, immediately took off, identifying people in the sea in just a few minutes. Despite the high waves and the strong wind, the three unfortunates, one Italian, were recovered and transported to the St Luke Hospital for the care of the case.

The SAR (Search and Rescue) section of the Italian Defense Collaboration Mission operates with personnel from the Italian Air Force and with mixed Italian-Maltese crews, collaborating with the Maltese Government in the Research and Rescue Service. The service is guaranteed h 24 with HH 212 helicopters.
