Scramble of two Eurofighter

20/10/14

On Friday 17 October, a Boeing 787 "Dreamliner" from Air India, with the Delhi-Rome route, triggered the "scramble" alarm after entering national airspace without permission from the airspace control bodies.

The event activated the air defense system by launching the rapid take-off procedure for two Eurofighter air force fighters.

At 18 hours: 26, the national government authority, ordered the immediate take-off of two interceptor fighter planes in the national service.

The two Eurofighters departed from the airport of the 4 ° Stormo of Grosseto in a few minutes, under the control of the air defense radars assured by the air force, carried out the interception procedure, carried out with a subsonic flight profile at around 8000 mt ( high altitude), in the skies of Frosinone.

The scheduled aircraft has been identified without showing the presence of the two fighters, in order to avoid the possible concern of the passengers. At 30 km from the "Leonardo da Vinci" airport of Fiumicino, the national government authority, having verified the absence of safety dangers, communicated the order to return to the base for the two Eurofighter aircraft.

As happened previously during the interventions of the 4 and 14 September and the even more recent of the 7 October, the procedures envisaged for the surveillance and continuous monitoring of the national airspace have been confirmed as effective, as well as promptly and professionally performed.

The military aeronautics ensures the surveillance of the national airspace 365 days a year, 24 hours on 24, with an integrated defense system, from the time of peace, with that of the other countries belonging to NATO. The service is guaranteed by the 4 ° Stormo of Grosseto, the 36 ° Stormo of Gioia del Colle and the 37 ° Stormo of Trapani with Eurofighter fighter aircraft.
