Romics 2022: presented the new editorial project One hundred years of Aeronautica Militare in comics

On Sunday 9 October, during the 29th edition of Romics - International festival of comics, animation, cinema and games, the third issue of the collection was presented, entitled: "The return of the heroes".

The Air Force, to celebrate the now upcoming XNUMXth anniversary of its foundation, is promoting a production of author comics, a collection of twelve publications dedicated to compelling aeronautical-themed stories that unfold along the prestigious milestone of its one hundred years old, with the aim of involving both young people and all flying enthusiasts. 

Twelve o'clock graphic novel they will accompany readers towards the centenary anniversary (28 March 2023). This ambitious project is part of the context of the numerous initiatives that the Air Force is organizing in favor of citizens to spread the aeronautical culture on the territory and especially to bring young people closer to the values ​​and traditions that have characterized the history of the Armed Force, which is strongly connected. to the events of the country.

In this frame the idea of ​​a series of comic stories was born, made possible also thanks to the skill of young talents in the sector, coordinated by the artistic director Francesco Archidiacono, present at the event. Colonel Gerardo Cervone - head of the historical office - thus introduced the editorial project: "Our one hundred years of Aeronautical history are dotted with stories to tell and we wanted someone to represent them capable of transposing them in the best possible way, managing to convey fundamental values ​​for us. We therefore decided to involve Francesco Archidiacono as art director, for to be able to promote our 'world' through comics by those who know about comics. "

Francesco Archidiacono, art director of the series, he then added: "my job was, above all, to find a point of contact between two very different worlds, the military and the comics world. My intent was to tell these stories in the best possible way to a wider audience possible. , addressing above all to that of young people. In the series you will find volumes that tell particular historical events and others centered, instead, on the life of individual characters; such as the one we present today, 'the return of the heroes' ".

During the presentation event, Colonel Rosario D'Auria - deputy head of the 5th "Communication" department of the Air Force staff - underlined the importance of the comic series, a unique work of its kind: "The most exciting challenge was certainly that of being able to characterize the volumes in a different way, in order to provide each one with an identity that distinguished him from the others. This initiative is giving us great satisfaction, we have received numerous positive feedbacks and we hope that, with the continuation of the releases, this enthusiasm will increase more and more.

Furthermore, from 14 October we will host an exhibition in the historic rooms of Palazzo Aeronautica where a large part of the comic is set. The exhibition is called "Ali di Carta" and tells the story of the Air Force not only from a military point of view but also from a civilian point of view, from the 30s to the present day, through cinema posters, another way to get closer to what is "mainstream" and create a link between the Air Force and society. "

Of the 12 titles in the series, three volumes have already been published: "El Alamein", "In volo per la vita" and "The return of the heroes". During the exhibition, three other volumes of the collection were previewed by the authors: "Incursori", "Firestorm" and "Fulco".

The Air Force participated in the event with an innovative stand equipped with an exhibition space which, with the help of photos, videos and editorial products, captured the interest of the large audience present at the convention and made it possible to show the initiatives already completed and those planned for the Centenary of the Armed Forces.
