Four urgent transports for the 31 ° stormo

24/07/14

On the morning of the 22 July, a Falcon 50, supplied to the 31 ° flock of Ciampino, took off for Palermo in order to embark with the utmost urgency a child of only one month of life waiting to be subjected to a delicate Rome surgery.

The crew arrived in Palermo and picked up the child and then took off again for Ciampino.

The plane landed at 12: 35 on the track where an ambulance from the "Bambin Gesù" hospital in Rome was waiting for the little patient to be able to provide the necessary treatment as soon as possible.

During the night the situation room of the Air Force Staff re-alerted the 31 ° flock operating room. The Falcon 50 started again this time for Brindisi to pick up a girl from Taranto from 17 years waiting for a transplant for which an organ had been made available at a hospital in the capital.

Fifty minutes after returning to Rome, following a new order from the situation room, the crew departed for Olbia where a woman of 39 years had to be taken to be transported urgently to Pisa to be subjected to a delicate surgical operation.

Before setting off for Pisa, however, the Falcon 50 stopped at Cagliari Elmas airport and embarked on a child of only 13 days in imminent danger of life that the intensive care and neonatal pathology department of the Policlinico di Monserrato hospital had to urgently be transferred to the hospital foundation "G. Monasterio" of Massa Carrara. Due to the fragility of her condition, the child was embarked in an incubator and in addition to the constant medical assistance she needed a ventilator, an oxygen cylinder, venous infusion pumps for drugs and a cardiomonitor, all equipment that the Falcon 50 is prepared to support. The aircraft arrived in Pisa at the 3: 10 where two ambulances waited for the patients for the subsequent hospitalization in the relative hospitals and subsequently returned to the base.

The aircraft of the 31 ° flock of Ciampino are used for state transport and for public utility missions, such as emergency medical transport of patients, traumatized persons and organs for transplants, as well as for interventions in favor of people in any case risk situations. This last activity, given the imminent danger of life of the transported people, imposes a level of readiness, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.
