"Psychology of Emergency in the Context of Armed Conflict"

The 17 ° basic course of "Emergency Psychology in the Context of Armed Conflicts", organized in coordination with the Enrollment Unit, was held by the 19 at the 1 February, at the Volunteer School of Military Air Force (SVTAM) of Taranto. and Promotional Activities (NAAPRO) - Taranto Section of the Italian Red Cross and in collaboration with the XI CRI Mobilization Center of Bari.

The course was attended by military personnel of the various Armed Forces present in the Ionian territory, Aeronautics, Navy and Carabinieri, personnel of the Guardia di Finanza and of the Italian Red Cross, together with the volunteer nurse students of the Provincial Inspectorate of the CRI of Taranto.

On the opening day, the course addressed issues related to interpersonal communication, to the phenomenology and methodology of communication. Lieutenant Colonel AAran Tommaso Corona, lecturer for the subject, alternated theoretical lessons with practical activities, through games and role playing.

In the following days, Lieutenant Domenico Nardiello, psychologist of the Italian Red Cross, treated the fundamentals of emergency psychology, the core business of the course. The role of the rescuer, the psychophysical reactions and the psychopathologies linked to the victim's trauma were the main arguments of the dissertation; as a corollary of the training, self-help techniques (Defusing), learned by the learner, are particularly useful.

Emergency Psychology is a branch of psychology that is concerned with the functioning of the human mind and the behavior of man when he is hit by a traumatic event. It is an "applied psychology" that refers to the historical paradigms of psychological matter, to intervene on concrete, individual and collective problems that can affect all aspects of human behavior, creating effective mental models in situations of disasters.
