Air bridge from Brindisi to Greece

Last Wednesday an airlift was activated by the Greek embassy in Rome, to recover the surviving Greek citizens of the Norman Atlantic shipwreck, rescued by the aircraft of the AM, the Navy and the ships that crossed in the area of shipwreck.

A C-130 aircraft of the Greek air force, which took off from the Eleusis military airport, arrived in the afternoon at the Brindisi Airport Detachment and, after embarking on fifty Greek castaways (men, women and children), took off in late evening for Greece.

Despite the particular weather conditions in place, with wind gusts higher than the 30 knots, the Armed Force through the Detachment staff has activated to provide assistance to the aircraft and personnel, making boarding operations easy and quick.

Also present at the operations was the Greek ambassador to Italy, who at the end of the activity thanked the staff of the Air Force, for the extraordinary assistance provided and the professionalism shown.

The Detachment of the Air Force of Brindisi, placed under the Support Service of the Logistic Command, in addition to providing assistance to the United Nations, ensures, 24 hours a day, 24 days a year, assistance to the air navigation and meteorological services civil aviation, to passing aircraft belonging to NATO countries, providing the logistical and administrative support of the Armed Forces in the Brindisi area.
