Aid Mission for a HCDXUMXA of the MICCD

On the morning of Wednesday 5 August, the Rescue Coordination Center of the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) requested the intervention of a MICCD HH212A helicopter for the urgent recovery of a sailor in imminent danger of life aboard a fishing boat operating in about 12 miles from the Maltese coast.

The helicopter, named Rescue 1212, took off at the 09: 55 at the time of the fishing boat “Lorenza Madre”, with the Maltese flag and, after about 15 minutes of flight, on the vertical of the boat began the recovery procedure with winch.

Once the aerosor was brought aboard the unit and checked the conditions of the victim, he proceeded with the recovery using the double braga.

The seafarer, of Maltese nationality, was in a state of shock due to head injury following a fall.

Once the traumatized person on board the aircraft was stabilized, he immediately went to the landing pad of the “St. Luke ”, where the patient was entrusted to the health personnel who intervened for the subsequent admission to the“ Mater Dei ”hospital.

The crew then returned to the AFM Air Wing square where the helicopter was promptly reconditioned to resume the alarm service.

The SAR section of the Italian Collaboration Mission in the Defense Field carries out its activity with mixed Italian-Maltese crews, guaranteeing on the island of Malta a Search and Rescue Service 24 hours a day with the HH212A helicopters of the Italian Air Force, also in the more difficult weather conditions.
