The Air Force trains the Brindisi firefighters

Firefighters of the local civil airport have been trained by the staff of the AM to intervene on the aerotactic aircraft supplied to the Air Force.

With the use of a Eurofighter aircraft (EFA2000) of the 36 ° Stormo and of an HH-139 helicopter of the 84 ° Center C / SAR (Combat Search and Rescue) stationed on the grounds of the Antonio Ramirez Military Airport in Gioia del Colle, firefighting training organized in favor of Fire Brigade personnel working at the airport took place yesterday at the Brindisi Airport Detachment house "Papola Casale".

The training process, which began a theoretical phase, concluded with practical exercises focused on acquiring the necessary skills to protect the safety of flight crews and passengers transported on military aircraft.

To this end, with the support of the fire-fighting personnel of the 36 ° Stormo, a briefing on the technical characteristics of the EFA2000 and HH-139 aircraft and on their main safety features.

The training is part of the actions following the transit of Brindisi airport from a military airport to a civilian airport of the State. This status change, in fact, provides, among other things, for the execution of the fire prevention service on military aircraft by the Fire Brigade, based on a specific agreement between the Ministry of Defense and the Interior.

At the end of the activity, Lieutenant Colonel Marcello Morara, responsible for the training activity e flight safety officer of the Detachment, in thanking the participants, highlighted how "The training carried out in synergy between the staff of the AM and that of the Fire Brigade, constitutes the right combination to allow to the personnel in charge, to adopt the appropriate intervention procedures in the event of a plane crash ”.

For Colonel Luca Bianciardi, commander of the detachment, “These exercises are a fundamental tool to complete the training process of the staff of the Fire Brigade in order to get them used to managing potential emergency situations. Furthermore, the training is a moment of verification for the personnel in charge of the rescue, who in this context, has the opportunity to test the skills acquired and the efficiency of the means available to carry out the important and delicate task of safeguarding the human lives ".
