Accident in flight between two Tornados

19/08/14

The Air Force confirms that a flight accident occurred between two Tornado aircraft that were carrying out a training mission this afternoon. The affected area is the one above Ascoli Piceno.

The two Tornadoes, carrying two pilots and two navigators, had left the Ghedi air base (Brescia) and were carrying out a planned and approved training mission according to the rules of flight.

Air-rescue helicopters and other reconnaissance fighters are in flight. A helicopter is engaged in the areas from which the emergency signals seem to be coming.

After the impact of the aircraft, various fires have been reported between Olibra and Venarotta.

Witnesses would say that they saw the two planes touch each other in flight, one of them would then have caught fire and both would have crashed to the ground.
