The helicopters hangar of the 31 ° flock has been inaugurated

Last Thursday, 8 May, the inauguration of the recently renovated 31 helicopter hangar hangar was inaugurated: it is a modern structure, with state-of-the-art facilities, which will allow to host and perform maintenance on the new UH aircraft -139 and VH-139 from few years in force to the flock.

The general of the aerial team Gabriele Salvestroni, commander of the logistic command of the air force, accompanied by the general chief inspector Vincenzo Panaro, head of the infrastructure service, visited the 31 ° flock welcomed by Colonel Alessandro Tortorella, commander of the department, to carry out the symbolic ribbon cutting that opened the doors of the new building to the guests present.

After the blessing of the hangar by the prelate of the department, the new structure and its capabilities were presented, illustrating the numerous works carried out to bring it to full efficiency, which required the relocation of the changing rooms in two other structures, specially renovated for flight crews, carpentry and warehouses for clothing and special aeronautical material. Only once these essential links were moved was it possible to start the redevelopment and construction of the new hangar, which took about a year.

The commander of the 2 ° department of genius AM showed how the synergy with the local command, which made the transfer of all the materials contained in the appendices in less time than the one assigned and gave prompt and continuous support to the decision-making activities of detail, has allowed the achievement of the final objective within the set times.

The work, designed and contracted by the 2 ° genius department, has led to the full recovery of an old hangar long since no longer used as such due to inadequate infrastructure.

Particular attention has been paid to functionality, with modular electrical systems, specifically designed on the basis of new requirements, and with a sectional book-type door operated by automatic systems instead of, as has been the case up until now, manually. Under the safety profile, plasters have been adopted and fire-proof ceilings, as well as intumescent paints, which will allow to obtain the fire prevention certificate for the structure. Peculiar also the choice of smoke and heat evacuators, automatic or controlled opening windows that allow, in the event of fire, to improve the conditions of intervention and safety in general.

Lastly, the use of insulating panels for the roof and side walls, the presence of the false ceiling in the hangar and the installation of new low-transmittance fixtures in the appendices have made it possible to achieve very high energy efficiency, with a reduction in thermal potential and of the consequent consumption of over 65% (from 1.200kW to 350kW for the hangar, from 400kW to 200kW for the appendices).

Other interventions include the construction of a new industrial paving for the hangar and the creation of a pitch for the manual cleaning of aircraft with high pressure lances, automatic dosing of additives and purification of waste water. The renewal of the logistic structures is part of the general modernization of the operational lines of the armed force, a targeted process of restoration of the existing structures for the use of the new systems acquired and of imminent entry into the operational line that will allow the military aeronautics to significantly improve its efficiency responding to larger and more complex assignments but with management costs, the number of men employed and the necessary air carriers clearly reduced compared to the past.
