The contribution of the AM to the 37ma Dobbiaco-Cortina

12/02/14

On the 8 and 9 days of February the Dobbiaco Airport Detachment was at the center of an international ski competition that saw some 1700 sportsmen at the start.

The athletes, coming from more than 25 nations, gave life to the 37th edition of the Dobbiaco-Cortina, a long-distance classic that takes place annually in the Dolomites.

The Airport runway, located in the historic "Dobbiaco plain", has been transformed for the occasion into a real ski circuit from which the competitors who traveled along the 30 kilometers of the track set off. Due to heavy snowfall in recent days and the consequent closure of the stretch of track that led to Cortina, the race then saw the epilogue in the Nordic Arena of Dobbiaco.

With the support of the Italian Air Force, the organizers of the event, one of the most prestigious sporting events in the area, were able to provide competitors with the accreditation and delivery of bibs, access to the track and the preparation of skis. It was also possible to guarantee the essential presence of emergency vehicles in the immediate vicinity of the place of departure.
