The USF chief of staff in Italy

Yesterday, General Mark Anthony Welsh III, chief of staff of the United States Air Force (USAF), went on a working visit to Italy where he was welcomed in the presence of the aerial team general Pasquale Preziosa , Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Colonel Christopher D. Cook of the USAF, Air Attaché of the US Embassy in Italy, and a representative of the US Department of Defense and top armed forces.

Palazzo Aeronautica represented the first stage of the visit of General Welsh who, in the suggestive atmosphere of the Sala Italia conferred "The Legion of Merit" (Degree of Officer) to the general of the aerial team Gabriele Salvestroni, AM logistics commander. The motivation was exalted by the work carried out by General Salvestroni during the period in which he held the position of defense and cooperation officer at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC, between the 2009 and the 2012.

General Welsh and General Preziosa subsequently visited the base of Cameri (Novara) where they were received by the head of the Multipurpose Aerotactic Aircraft Center of Cameri (Ce.Po.VA) general inspector Lucio Bianchi. Also present was the US consul general in Milan ambassador Philip Reeker. The visit was opened by a briefing held by the same General Bianchi who illustrated the activities of the Multipurpose Aerotactic Aircraft Center.

Following the brigadier general Giuseppe Lupoli, of the Aeronautical Armaments and Airworthiness Department of the General Secretariat of Defense, he illustrated the activities of the "Final Assembly and Check Out" (FACO), intended for the assembly of the F35 / Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) aircraft. and at which 692 people are currently employed. The delegation then visited the FACO area, where the activities in progress were verified and the progress of the work was ascertained. 

The following day the visit continued at the 61st Wing of Lecce where the commander of the US Air Force and Ms. Heidi Grant, Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force, was received by the air squad general Franco Girardi, commander of the Schools of the AM / 3 ^ Air Region and by Colonel Paolo Tarantino, commander of the Salento Flight School. After a briefing to present the activities of the department, the delegation visited the main structures of the base, which has always been the focal point of military flight training and is currently involved in a delicate and complex process of modernization and restructuring, both nationally and international. The visit ended with the traditional exchange of crests and souvenirs.
