On Monday, the Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force, Pasquale Preziosa, team general, visited the Pantelleria Airport Detachment and then the 134 ^ Remote Radar Squadron and the Lampedusa Air Force Detachment.

The Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force was accompanied by the commander of the Air Squad, air team general Maurizio Lodovisi, the Director of the Directorate for Employment of the Air Force, general of the air division Gianpaolo Miniscalco, and the commander of the 37 ° Wing of Trapani Birgi, Colonel Luca Capasso.

During the morning, Lieutenant Colonel Alessandro Scabia, commander of the Pantelleria Airport Detachment, illustrated the peculiarities of the Authority and guided the Authorities through a visit to the historic and impressive structures of the department.

In particular, the commander of the Detachment highlighted the long historical tradition that links the presence of the Air Force to the island of Pantelleria, a frontier land towards the African continent, the renewed mission of the Authority and the logistical and technical support capabilities. operational that the base provides daily in favor of the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement.

On this occasion the Chief of the General Staff expressed renewed appreciation, in particular, for the Aviorimessa Nervi (named after the engineer Pierluigi Nervi), a monumental structure and still today in the forefront, as well as for the capacity of the personnel of the Entity to maintain an adequate level of efficiency and fulfill its mission.

In the afternoon, General Pereziosa went to the 134 ^ Remote Radar Squadron and the Aeronautical Detachment of Lampedusa, where Lieutenant Vito Bitetto, commander of both bodies, illustrated the mission entrusted to the two Departments, the objectives achieved and the constant logistical support provided to all the Armed Forces and the Police forces that operate daily, for various reasons, on the island of Lampedusa, also to deal with the immigration emergency.

On the sidelines of the visit, the Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force met with the general of the army corps Carmine De Pascale, commander of the 2 Defense Forces Command (FOD), present on the island to verify the logistic structures and of the "Safe Roads" contingent, deployed on the island of Lampedusa.

The Pantelleria Airport Detachment, present on the island from 1986, ensures assistance to military aircraft in transit or redirected, guarantees the operation of the Military Airport open to civil traffic in Pantelleria and the meteorological service according to the international and national regulations in force .

The detachment also has the task of guarding and maintaining the "Aviorimessa Nervi", a military structure of considerable historical, engineering and architectural value.

The 134 ^ Remote Radar Squadron, included in the National Air Defense network, has the task of maintaining the assigned system in efficiency, without interruption, and of ensuring the surveillance of the airspace of competence.

The Lampedusa Aeronautical Detachment provides logistical support to the 134 ^ Remote Radar Squadron and to the other military Bodies deployed on the island of Lampedusa. In this context, it provides assistance to military aircraft in transit on the civilian airport.
