Tuesday 5 August, at the "F. Cesari ”of Galatina, an exercise was held organized by the Flight Safety Office of the 61 ° flock which involved men and equipment of the department and was aimed at maintaining the training procedures provided for by the airport accident prevention plan.

During the introductory briefings, which were attended by all the personnel involved in the exercise, it was highlighted, as a common goal, the increase in the culture of flight safety and the ability, by all interested parties, to intervene in a manner effective and safe in cases of emergency and / or flight accident.

In the first phase, a mild flight accident was simulated with the intervention of the crane to remove the aircraft from the area of operations. In the second phase of the exercise, the bursting of a tire was simulated in the landing phase of the aircraft with unconscious crew on board and simultaneous activation of the health personnel to provide immediate assistance to the pilots involved.

For the commander of the 61 ° flock, Colonel Paolo Tarantino, "this kind of exercises constitutes, for a flight school, an effective way to realistically prepare the various professions related to the operational activity, and above all the flight crew in training, on topics of fundamental importance such as the actions and arrangements for prevention and management of emergency situations ”.

The 61 ° flock is a "Flight School" whose primary mission is to provide training and flight training on jets of student pilots up to the achievement of military pilot's license (phases II and III), of military pilots who must obtain the "pre-operative" patent (Lead In-to Fighter Training), preparatory to placing on the aero-tactical assets (phase IV) and military pilots destined to perform the duties of "flight instructor".
