Dual emergency medical transport for two newborns

24/11/14

A dual emergency medical flight was carried out last Thursday to bring two newborn babies from Cagliari to Rome. The two children were admitted to the neonatal ward of the Cagliari hospital, but the worsening of their medical conditions, prompted the doctors of the institute to declare the imminent danger of life and therefore to request their timely transfer to the hospital Bambino Gesù of Rome.

The doctors' request was immediately sent by the Cagliari prefecture to the Situation Room at the Summit of the Air Force General Staff, which promptly ordered the take-off of a Falcon 50 from the 31st Wing of Ciampino.

The aircraft, adequately set up for medical needs, landed in a short time at Cagliari Elmas airport where it embarked the two babies, one of them on board a special thermal cradle to stabilize their conditions during the flight, the mothers, and a medical team to assist small patients during transport. Once in Ciampino, an ambulance transported the two patients to the Roman hospital.

The Air Force ensures emergency medical transport of sick, severely traumatized, people in imminent danger of life and organs for transplants, 365 days 24 per year on 24, through the use of fleets of Status, assigned to the 31 ° Wing of Ciampino, and of the other assets supplied to the Armed Forces (C-130J, C-27, P-180, HH 139), coordinated by the Situation Room of the Chief of the Air Force General Staff.
