Two relief operations within the mission in Malta

28/02/15

The first intervention took place on the evening of February 25, when an HH212 helicopter, at the request of the Maltese authorities, despite the adverse weather conditions that did not allow connections by sea, rose in flight for the urgent transfer of a young woman with serious birth complications.

The aircraft, with a health support team on board, took off from Malta to reach Gozo, where they boarded and stabilized the woman, and then transported her to Swatar's “Mater Dei” hospital where she was entrusted to health personnel.

The second Thursday 26 February, for the search for a young tourist dragged offshore on the east coast of Gozo, near Dweira.

The research, which lasted for several hours, hampered by strong winds and frequent rain showers, is still ongoing.

The SAR Section (Search and Rescue), equipped with HH212 helicopters, is an operational structure of the Italian Collaboration Mission in the Defense Field, and provides both the training of the flight personnel and the SAR service (Search and Rescue - research activity and rescue). The flights are carried out with mixed Italian-Maltese crews, and guarantee the SAR hx24 service, even in adverse weather conditions.
