10/07/15

On Wednesday 8 July, the handover ceremony took place between Colonel Claudio Luigi Icardi, outgoing commander of the Military School "Giulio Douhet" and Colonel Michele Buccolo.

The ceremony, attended by the prefect of Florence and by the air division general Gian Franco Camperi, commander of the Institute of Military Aeronautical Sciences (ISMA) in Florence, was attended by the highest civil, religious and military authorities of the Florentine city, as well as territorial educational institutions.

After three years in command, Colonel Icardi affirmed that the primary objective assigned to the school, namely that of "forming excellent citizens and potential leaders", has been fully achieved.

In particular, he underlined how "the School is able to create the best conditions for students to grow culturally, morally, physically and in character, in a military and aeronautical context highly integrated into the social fabric of the city of Florence"

After three years at the School, Colonel Claudio Icardi leaves the command to fill the position of Head of the External Relations Office at the General Office for Communication of the Air Force Staff, Rome.

The ceremony reached the most striking moment when the outgoing commander handed over the Flag of the Institute in the hands of General Camperi, who in turn, passing it to Colonel Buccolo, sealed in a highly symbolic and meaningful way, the successful assumption of the command of the school.

In his speech, the new commander highlighted that "the promising results achieved so far, represent a valid and tangible prerequisite worthy of every attention, both at institutional and directive level, for its ever greater and more harmonious development"

General Camperi, in his speech, confirmed the brilliant achievement of the objectives obtained in the last three years, and underlined how: "In these three years the Douhet School has returned to society citizens capable of representing an added value in terms of ethical rigor and school preparation ".
