AM: Predator identifies boat of migrants

On Wednesday, 22 January, during an operational mission within the "Mare Nostrum" operation, a Predator B of the 28 ° Flight Group of the Air Force of Amendola intervened to identify and follow a boat carrying migrants heading towards the coast Italians, previously sighted by the Navy.

At 12.39, the crew, within the Exploitation Data System, after a careful analysis by the Intelligence and Image Analyst personnel, confirmed that the vessel observed, a boat of about 12/14 meters of length, was directed towards the Italian coasts.

Immediately, all the information collected was reported to the Air Operation Center (AOC) of Poggio Renatico (FE) which shared it in real time with the Navy's Operational Command which identified the "Zeffiro" naval unit to provide relief. to migrants in transit.

The Air Force aircraft was on patrol mission from about 09.00, with the aim of carrying out a search within an assigned area with the task of identifying any boats bound for the Italian coasts and with migrants on board from African coasts. At 14.08 the Predator B left the boat to the Navy unit for rescue and recovery operations, continuing its work.
