Advanced Training Meeting

22/12/14

Thursday 11 and Friday 12 December, was held at the airport "F. Cesari ”of Galatina, the first Advanced Training Meeting between the OCU Flight Departments / Groups (Operational Conversion Unit) and the 61st Wing.

The meeting was attended by the general of the air division Nicola Lanza de Cristoforis, commander of the combat forces (CFC), and the representatives of the operational Stormi and OCU Groups of the Air Force. The main objectives of the meeting were: to expose to all participants the training potential of the new T-346A aircraft, through demonstration flights and the use of all simulation systems, and to optimize the drafting of future syllabuses of the OCU Departments and of the 61 ° Stormo with the aim of modeling the training on the operational needs of the Departments themselves.

During the meeting some flight missions were carried out to demonstrate all the potential of the aircraft through air-air scenarios in BVR contexts and air-ground scenarios through the use of simulated intelligent armament; the same scenarios were replicated with all ground simulation systems, such as the PTT (Part Task Trainer) and the FMS (Full Mission Simulator)

Currently the 61 ° Stormo is in the middle of the Phase-In process of the T-346A and the relative drafting of the syllabuses and training manuals, for which the contribution of the professional technical baggage of the OCU Groups is valuable.

Colonel Paolo Tarantino, in his speech, underlined how this moment of development is decidedly delicate and crucial to structure a syllabus that allows, through the use of the T-346 A, to go towards exit levels of increasingly higher pilots in the face of an increasingly substantial reduction in resources. The capabilities and characteristics of the new trainer aircraft, in fact, make it possible to offer OCUs a tactically advanced product capable of using machines with extremely high aerodynamic performance. Colonel Tarantino also reiterated the importance, for the future, of renewing these meetings in order to meet the changing training needs of the new 4th and 5th generation pilots.
