UNIFIL: photovoltaic plants inaugurated for the municipality of Kunin

The command of the Joint Task Force - Lebanon Sector West (JTF-L SW) of UNIFIL has inaugurated two photovoltaic plants in the municipality of Kunin, one built as part of the initiatives to support local communities with military-civil cooperation projects, the other framed within the Quick Impact Projects of the Civil Affairs by UNIFIL. Both plants will be essential for the water purification process.

"UNIFIL's action is constant in its vocation to alleviate the burden of the economic crisis weighing on local communities" said the commander of UNIFIL's JTF-L SW, Brigadier General Roberto Vergori. "Our role of daily cooperation and joint activity with the Lebanese Army for security and stability goes hand in hand with the desire to extend our hand to the needs of the local population, who face all the hardships with dignity and solidarity of the moment and always welcomes us”.

The Italian contingent in Lebanon, which is responsible for the western sector of UNIFIL, is organized on a "Folgore" parachute brigade basis, under the command of around 3.600 Blue Helmets from 17 of the 48 contributing countries to the UN mission.

It has among its tasks that of monitoring the cessation of hostilities, assisting the Lebanese Armed Forces and supporting the civilian population, with impartiality, neutrality and in adherence to the mandate of the United Nations Resolution 1701.
