La Blue-line, a thin line outlined on the shared horizon between Lebanon and Israel, traced on the ground and on the surface of the sea by the "Blue-barrel". A border that is not a border, but still a line of demarcation, so fragile as to require constant care and surveillance.
Also in this, the soldiers of the bersaglieri brigade Garibaldi, are used daily in the Sector West within the UN mission UNIFIL. Since last October 19th, in fact, about 11000 monitoring activities have already been carried out on the demarcation line, of which over 2000 conducted by Italbatt, the Maneuvering Unit based on the "Guide" cavalry regiment (19th) together with units of 8th Bersaglieri Regiment of Caserta.
Patrolling ensures the monitoring of the cessation of hostilities by favoring, maintaining the tranquility of the area of interest, its stabilization and increasing the perception of security by the local population. About the work of his men, Brigadier General Diodato Abagnara, commander of the JTF-L explains the delicacy of the task to which the Bersaglieri Brigade Garibaldi has been called: "there is still no internationally recognized border, therefore among the activities conducted by the Italian Blue Helmets that of the patrolling of the section pertaining to the blue-line line carried out by our ITALBATT Maneuvering Unit together with the Ghanaian (Ghanbatt) and Irish ones (Irishbatt), is the backbone of the stability of the sector. We are asked for a vigilant, lasting operational commitment that guarantees the super partes role of the United Nations. "
But the UNIFIL mission is not just this. Among the many tasks assigned to the men of LEONTE XXV, all equally complex and delicate, there is also that of joint training with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), a few days ago, the news of the beginning of a new phase of joint training at the end of an accurate planning phase conducted by Joint Task Force Lebanon (JTF-L) - Sector West (SW) staff, with the leaders of the 5th and 5th brigade rapid intervention regiment (RIR) of the LAF. The training moments between the Italian Blue Helmets and the LAF are a necessary condition for the units on the ground to operate in full synergy, guaranteeing greater safety and decision-making speed, also to face sudden threats or unpredictable situations. In this regard, General Abagnara confirmed that for the coming months, they were planned in concert with the leaders of the LAF of the South Litani Sector (SLS), several joint activities that "they will favor not only greater adherence to the changing scenarios of reference but also the mutual knowledge of the procedures to be implemented".
