The destroyer Luigi Durand de la Penne is engaged in the operation Atalanta from today 11 July to 5 December, covering, in this context, the role of flagship of the aeronaval device of the operation.
Atalanta it is the first maritime security operation set up by the EU in the Horn of Africa basin to counter the phenomenon of piracy and to guarantee, at the same time, maritime surveillance and freedom of navigation, with particular regard to the transport of humanitarian aid by sea.
With participation in the operation Atalanta of Ship Durand de la Penne, the Navy, in synergy with international actors such as the EU, allied and partner Navies, contributes to regional security and stability, protecting national and European interests.
