An exercise was held off the Bahraini coast on Wednesday 21 December between a unit of the Italian Navy, the offshore patrol vessel Thaon of Revel, and a Royal Bahrain Naval Force (RBNS) unit, the patrol vessel Ahmed Al Fateh.
Joint operations were conducted during the training event also using the Italian SH-90 helicopter. The ships conducted close kinematic maneuvers and radio and optical communications exercises.
The activity was also capitalized on in favor of the young officers on board by offering, moreover, to a portion of the respective crews the possibility of carrying out an exchange of personnel during the exercise in order to maximize involvement in terms of interoperability at sea.
An activity implemented as a result of the exchange of bilateral institutional visits carried out during the stop in Manama by the Italian patrol vessel, in the role of Flagship of the AGENOR operation, under the aegis of the initiative called European-led Maritime Awareness in the Strait of Hormuz (EMASoH).
Nave's long period of out-of-area engagement Thaon of Revel, which began last August 12 with participation in various operations in the area, up to touching the area of the Arabian Sea and the Gulf, therefore represents an extremely favorable opportunity for the consolidation of relations with the Navies of the region, in the broadest spectrum of activity of confidence building e naval diplomacy traditionally carried out by the Navy in the enlarged Mediterranean area.
