Lebanon: first month of mission for the soldiers of the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" in the land of the cedars

The first month of mission has passed for the soldiers of the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” cavalry brigade who took command of UNIFIL's Sector West on 17 October.

The Italian blue helmets have already carried out over 1500 operational activities of which, 122 with the Lebanese Armed Forces as well as 62 civil and military cooperation activities (works for public lighting, remaking of public structures and distribution of humanitarian aid to schools, local associations ). Health care covered the medical, dental and veterinary sectors and 811 Lebanese citizens have already been visited.

The commander of the western sector of UNIFIL, Brigadier General Ugo Cillo, launched a series of official visits to the main civil, military and religious authorities of South Lebanon from which he found the utmost collaboration and satisfaction for the activities carried out by the Italian contingent and by UNIFIL in general for the safety of the area.

The Italian soldiers operate in South Lebanon to ensure the application of the UN Security Council 1701 resolution which provides for: monitoring of the cessation of hostilities, support for the local population and support for the Lebanese armed forces.

The Italian contingent is made up of the cavalry brigade command based in Italy in Gorizia, the "Genova Cavalleria" (4th) regiment of Palmanova, the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" logistic regiment of Remanzacco and assets of the: 3rd genius guastatori regiment of Udine, "Pozzuolo del Friuli" command and tactical support department of Gorizia, 7th transmission regiment of Sacile, 33rd transmission regiment of Treviso, 7th NBC regiment of Civitavecchia, military veterinary center of Grosseto and Arma dei Carabinieri with functions of military police.
