Lebanon: fight against improvised explosive devices

It was carried out in Shama at the Italian-led UNIFIL West Sector Command on a parachute brigade base thunderbolt the first course of C-IED Awareness (fight against improvised devices) in favor of the Lebanese Armed Forces.

The instructors of the Combat Support Battalion, based on the 8th Paratroopers Regiment, with the support of the canine assets of the Military Veterinary Center, conducted the activity developing it with theoretical-practical phases with the aim of training the Lebanese military in the delicate sector of improvised explosive devices and unexploded ones .

Specifically, the instructors of the Combat Support Battalion have provided visitors with the basic notions to be able to recognize regulatory ammunition and the procedures to be adopted in the presence of unexploded ordnance (UXOs) or improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in order to reduce the risk for the forces operating on the ground and for knowing how to manage any accidents.

The operational activity, which falls within the basin of operations conducted daily together with the Lebanese Armed Forces, was particularly appreciated as it was aimed at further increasing the technical and professional level of the apparatus responsible for ensuring security in southern Lebanon in compliance with Resolutions 1701 and 2373 of the United Nations Security Council.

As part of the UN mission in Lebanon, the Combat Support Battalion it is the unit that guarantees the support to the maneuvering forces, ensuring units for the reclamation of the devices, the fight against the chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear (CBRN) threat and the communications for the Italian contingent and for all the nations operating in Sector West of UNIFIL.
