Lebanon: Italian peacekeepers train with the Lebanese Armed Forces

The blue helmets of the "Taurinense" Alpine Brigade, deployed in Lebanon since February as part of the UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) mission, concluded the first week of joint training with the soldiers of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in the Chawakeer training area, near the city of Tyre.

The "ITALBATT" Task Force, based on the 3rd Alpine Regiment, conducted a week of mountaineering training agreed with the command of the 5th LAF brigade, focused on familiarization with the equipment and basic movement techniques on vertical surfaces, both in both ascending and descending.

The joint training activity, in addition to allowing the exchange of experiences and knowledge, allows the individual soldier to exponentially increase his professional background.

In the subsequent phases, training modules of gradually increasing difficulty will be developed, until the objective of training instructors who are able to independently train personnel and smaller units of the Lebanese Army is achieved.

As part of the excellent cooperation on the ground between the UNIFIL Alpine troops and the Lebanese army, the training opportunities are part of the support and assistance activities for the Lebanese Armed Forces, provided for by resolution 1701 of the United Nations Security Council, at the in order to contribute both to the containment of current cross-border hostilities and to the search for conditions of greater stability in the south of the country.

The activities carried out in the operational theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the operational command of interforce forces (COVI).
