The Italian Army trains local security forces in Iraq in cybersecurity

The Cyber ​​Defense exercise aimed at training the cybersecurity directorate Iraqi, conducted by the military's mobile team cyber security department of the Italian Army, as part of the NATO Mission in Iraq (NMI).​​​​

Cyber ​​operators mobile advisory training team (MATT), enucleated from cyber security department of the transmission command of the Army, have provided support to the specialists of theIraqi Security Information and Iraqi Security Force in staff training activities cybersecurity directorate of Baghdad regarding the most important defense techniques against cyber attacks.​​​​

The activity, which also saw the creation of a security operational center, was divided into three phases, based on a program agreed with local cybersecurity staff to develop specific capabilities.

During the initial phase, theoretical and practical activities were carried out on the fundamental principles of cyber security, so as to create a common base of reference, essential for operating within an operations centre.

Subsequently, the most common attack methodologies were analysed, highlighting system vulnerabilities, generally targeted by malicious actors, and the initial response and mitigation operations.

The training concluded with the simulation of cyber attacks and responses through a complete SIEM (System and Information Event Management) system, an essential tool for monitoring the IT infostructure, which allowed all participants to practice realistically restoring compromised IT assets.
