Herat sport for women's rights and against violence

With the aim of raising awareness of respect for the rights of Afghan women, their freedom of expression, including in particular the possibility of practicing healthy sport and socializing, the Train Advise Assit Command West (TAAC W) organized a women's football match which ended with the victory of the Bastan Football Club, based on the football representation of women from the Italian military contingent.

The event, in its third edition, entitled "A Match for Women's Rights", was preceded by a meeting on gender issues, chaired by the commander of TAAC W, Brigadier General Gianpaolo Mirra, during which the achievements were highlighted of women in the political, economic and social fields, but also that discrimination and violence against them are still a serious problem.

Instead, the event highlighted how sport can be one of the vehicles through which to break down those cultural barriers that are at the root of violence against women.

At the game, which took place in Camp Arena, headquarters of the TAAC W, assisted local civil and military authorities, including women belonging to the Army and Afghan police forces.

The Bastan Football Club is a football team made up of young Afghans, and plays in the local championships, the company, on the occasion of the match played at Camp Arena, a donation of sports equipment was made by Italian military civil cooperation.
