A cycle of exercises involving various units belonging to the Multinational Battle Group Bulgaria (MNBG-B).
The "Defensive Shield 23" exercise was held in the training area of Novo Selo during which a multinational tactical group was deployed consisting of a mechanized battalion reinforced by a tank company, a self-propelled artillery battery, a nuclear, chemical and bacteriological of the Bulgarian and Italian Armed Forces, by a unit of the US Army and by an infantry company of the 7th regiment sharpshooters, an Italian anti-aircraft battery and the JTAC. Some aircraft of the Bulgarian Air Force also took part in the exercise, with close air support tasks.
The "Pirin Sentinel 23" exercise was held in the training area of Koren, which had as its reference scenario the halt of an enemy offensive. A tank company, an artillery battery, both of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, aircraft and helicopters made available by Greece and an Italian armored platoon of MNBG-B.
The frequent training activities aim at perfecting the level of preparation of commanders, staff and units, necessary to ensure the development of the operational functions of command and control, maneuver and logistic support, in a multinational environment, indispensable requirements for conducting operations defense of the Euro-Atlantic spaces. For the Italian contingent, the two exercises represented a further test bench to test the high level of preparation achieved.
