Five Taliban fighters, during a solemn ceremony in the presence of civil and military authorities, have joined the program of reconciliation with the Afghan government institutions by formally surrendering their armament to the security forces.

There are about 20, in total, the insurgents who from December to today, under the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC W), a brigade "Sassari", opted for reconciliation as a result of the pressing activities conducted by the Army and the local police throughout the territory of the Western Region.

Multiple operations in progress carried out by the Security Forces, trained by the instructors of the Italian contingent, with results of absolute importance, both in the area north of Herat, where work will begin shortly to build a major strategic pipeline, both in the well-known areas of Shindand and Farah located south of the Camp Arena compound. From the latter, already advanced bases of the Italian contingent, and currently headquarters of the Afghan Army, begin daily activities to combat the onset.

Among the objectives identified and shared by the national contingent with the civil and military authorities of Herat, stands out the one aimed at achieving the 80% of the population in support of the Afghan government, in line with what was foreseen by a recent agreement signed by the top of the Resolute mission Support with President Ghani.

With this in mind, the reconciliation of the Taliban mentioned encourages other combatants to lay down their armament recognizing the rapprochement with local institutions as the only solution to internal conflicts.

The operation Resolute Support (RS) has the main task of continuing to train, advise and assist the Afghan Security Forces, who have assumed full responsibility for ensuring the safety of their country, to make them increasingly adherent and effective to the function that they cover.
