In recent days, an important offensive by the Afghan Army against some leaders of the local insurgency in the southern province of the Western Region of Afghanistan has been completed under the control of the Italian contingent on a "Sassari" brigade base.

Authoritative local sources confirmed the success of the operation, led by intelligence, which had the aim of disrupting the chain of command and control of the enemies of Afghanistan, which took place through the use of helicopters supplied to the Afghan armed forces. The surgical intervention conducted by the local military, without any use of Italian soldiers in kinetic operational activities, led to the neutralization of the insurgent forces, limiting any risk of involvement of civilian personnel and achieving results of great importance for the safety of the city and of the whole Farah area.

The operation, the result of the activity of Train, Advise and Assist (TAA) in favor of the 207˚ army corps of the Afghan Army represented for the Italian contingent - strong of the great experience acquired over the years and of the specific professional skills acquired in the preparation phase of the mission - the result of years of work and training carried out in synergy with the local counterparts, for whom the experience of the Army advisors allowed the raising of the operating standards.

Other operations will continue to be planned and conducted in the coming weeks, with the aim of guaranteeing control by local institutions in the southern areas of the western region and, at the same time, a high security framework for the civilian population.
