The Italian contingent of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC W) has made a donation in favor of the orphanage "Khaja Abdullah Ansari", within the framework of the civil and military cooperation projects coordinated with the Department for Social Policies of the governorate of Herat.

The goods, requested by the orphanage management and delivered by the military of the "Sassari", consist of material for infants such as diapers, bibs, baby bottles, sterilization set for baby bottles, baby food kits, clothes for bimbini of various ages and , given the coincidence with the Christmas festivities, various toys that come thanks to the generous donation of the Civil Protection of Ittiri and the State secondary school n.3 of Sassari.

The project at the orphanage continues the work begun in the 2008, when the Italian Civil and Military Cooperation initiated donations of basic necessities to children and works to make the infrastructure safe.

In the following years, works were carried out aimed at improving the sanitary conditions, the redevelopment of the playgrounds and there was constant interest in strengthening the educational aspects of the institute.

The donation took place in the presence of the commander of the TAAC-W, general Gianluca Carai, of the director of the male and female orphanage as well as of a representation of the children guests of the structure.

On the occasion, the manager thanked the Italian contingent who have always been close to the needs of the most unfortunate Afghan population and, in recalling the numerous projects carried out in the structure, she said that the first children helped by the Italian contingent in 2008 are now adults inserted in the world of work or students like others more fortunate.

The orphanage, which currently houses over 250 boys and girls from all over the western region, is named after the important figure of Khwaja Abd Allah Ansari, a prolific author of poetry, whose mausoleum is still the destination of an incessant cultural pilgrimage.
