Afghanistan: change of witness to the Joint Air Task Force

It took place yesterday, at Camp Arena, home of the Italian military contingent in Afghanistan, the change of command of the air component of the mission, the Joint Air Task Force (JATF), between the transferor Colonel Loris Tabacchi and the successor Colonel Alfonso Alberino.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Brigadier General Gianpaolo Mirra, commander of the TAAC-W (Train Advise Assist Command â € "West).

An intense period that of the col. Tabacchi, characterized by multiple activities, including the "Confidence Building" program, thanks to which Afghan civil aviation personnel, with the assistance and supervision of the JATF military, become familiar with the procedures for managing the five essential functions of an airport: weather service, fire prevention, navigation radio assistance, flight safety and air traffic control. This process has also seen the collaboration of Interoperable Summit Operations Command (COI) and of the NATO Support & Procurement Agency

The commander of TAAC West thanked Colonel Tabacchi for helping to solve numerous problems, underlining his great professionalism. The Col Tabacchi, in turn thanking him, also greeted all the JATF staff, whose commitment made it possible to achieve the objectives assigned in a framework of absolute security.

La Joint Air Task Force (JATF), today in command of the col. Alberino, is in the process of transformation and downsizing, following the sale of the airport functions. Established the 1 ° June of 2007 to give uniqueness of command in the management of air assets, starting from the 1 ° of January of the 2015, with the end of the "ISAF" mission and the beginning of the "Resolute Support" mission, the JATF has assumed responsibility for the management of Herat airport, which it will maintain even after the passage with NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).
