Afghanistan: humanitarian aid to the orphans of Herat

In recent days at the headquarters of the Train Advise and Assist Command West (TAAC-W), an Italian-led multinational command based on the Pinerolo brigade of the NATO Mission Resolute Support (RS), a donation of winter clothes was made to the children of the Khaja Abdullah Ansari Orphanage in Herat. In particular, thanks to the generosity of the men and women of the Italian contingent, it was possible to purchase about two hundred winter outfits delivered to the less fortunate children in a day of celebration and leisure with the Italian military.

The Herat Orphanage has already been the recipient of several projects of the Italian contingents that have alternated over the years and, among these, it is obligatory to remember that in 2018 alone childcare material was donated, mass in safety of the recreational play area together with the laying of a new play structure and last, but not least, 3,4 tons of various types of pasta and 1,2 tons of precooked legumes were delivered to the Department for the Social Affairs to be allocated to the orphanages of the Province.

In 2008, the Italian Civil and Military Cooperation started the project to support the Herat Orphanage with donations of basic necessities and simultaneous execution of works to make the infrastructure safe. The director of the Institute thanked the military and the Italian people, who have always been close to the needs of the most unfortunate Afghan population, and recalled that the first children helped by the Italian contingent have now become adults inserted in the world of work or students. Supporting the population, with particular attention to the most vulnerable groups in society, is one of the activities that goes alongside the main training, consultancy and assistance to the Afghan Security Forces to improve their functionality and their ability to self-support, focus of the advisors Italians within the NATO mission Resolute Support (RS), and is carried out both directly with projects identified and conducted by the national contingent, and by facilitating the distribution of humanitarian aid from national charitable organizations.
