The 16th Recon course ends at the San Marco marine brigade

On 21 December 2023, the closing ceremony of the 16th course took place at the Castello Svevo in Brindisi, home of the San Marco marine brigade Recon.

Three young Marine Fusiliers have successfully completed the toughest and longest selection and training process in the specialist component to become part of the parachute swimmer company of the 1st regiment Saint Mark responsible for carrying out reconnaissance and mine clearance activities and demolition of anti-landing obstacles. Terrestrial reconnaissance of the coast and deep within the area of ​​operation up to sensitive targets is a cornerstone of the component that has its roots in the middle of the last century.

The highly specialized, elite infantry units of the landing force, boast different infiltration methods, a strong ability to work in an isolated manner and a noteworthy operational autonomy, managing to operate easily in water and on land, managing to reach inaccessible areas impossible to access with conventional means.

Personnel, therefore, with unique characteristics in the national panorama, who have developed high-level expertise over the years, also recognized internationally, thanks also to the various interactions with the specialist components of the Allied Countries.

The Recon today represents a fundamental piece for amphibious operations: in fact the "silent roar" of the first lions that touch the ground. Thanks to their contribution and important effort, the maneuver units that follow are able to carry out their work at distance of a few hours having a preliminary knowledge of the situation on the ground. With these words the commander of the marine brigade Saint Mark, Rear Admiral Massimiliano Grazioso, wanted to summarize the role of the delicate structure.
