Yesterday, at the helicopter station of Sarzana, Maristaeli Luni, in the presence of the Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Valter Girardelli and the commander of the air forces, Rear Admiral Giorgio Gomma was delivered the first MH-90 helicopter in a tactical transport version to the Fifth Helicopter Group.

Representing the industry the head of the division Leonardo Helicopters, Dr. Daniele Romiti said: "The Military Navy with the NH 90 MITT program has provided the industry with the opportunity to create an innovative product in response to the needs of the Armed Forces that already international clients are looking at with interest."

The MH-90, denomination assigned to this particular variant of the NH-90 helicopter, encloses the most important features of the naval version, such as the cart and rotor optimized for use onboard the units of the naval team and the terrestrial , such as the rear ramp and mission equipment.

The particular characteristics of maneuverability, thanks to the fly by wire flight controls, and the presence of the pilot FLIR, enslaved to the pilot's helmet which allows images to be received directly on the visor, make it particularly suitable for tactical flight at very low altitude. In fact, the new version of the MH-90 was specifically designed to support the amphibious operations of the Marina San Marco Brigade and the Special Forces, "without however losing the capacity for multi-role and dual use, typical of all Navy vehicles" , as Admiral Gomma pointed out.

The helicopter just delivered, marked with side number 3-51, is the first of ten MH-90s assigned to the Aircraft Component of the Navy and enters service today at the Fifth Helicopter Group.
