On January 31 the divers of the Diving Operations Group (GOS), belonging to the SDAI core (Defending Defense Insidious Catches) of Taranto, intervened in the port of Molfetta following a report received from some local fishermen, which reported the presence of presumed war artifacts in the waters facing the Seminario quay.
In consideration of the high presence of fishing boats at the mooring, the operators of the Nucleo have provided for the safety of the site, realizing a zone of interdiction of 150 meters from the point reported to the maritime authority.
Despite the prohibitive visibility conditions, the divers identified 12 explosive remnants of the war (including 9 highly dangerous fire bombs) and a 9 mm caliber pistol, immediately delivered to the local carabinieri for the subsequent investigation of the case.
The recovered devices were subsequently transported to a safe area for the destruction operations, through the application of a specific counter charge. The activity was successfully conducted by the divers of the SDAI of Taranto on the morning of Friday 3 February.
It is recommended to all those who come across artifacts with shapes similar to an explosive device or parts of it, not to touch them at all and immediately report their discovery to the local harbor master's office or carabinieri station.
